Polygon Labs introduced the Chain Development Kit (CDK)
Polygon Labs has introduced the Chain Development Kit (CDK) software, designed to enable developers to create Layer 2 chains for Ethereum that utilize zero-knowledge proofs.
The CDK is an advancement of the Supernets tool and is part of the upcoming Polygon 2.0 roadmap. Its purpose is to provide a framework that allows for the development of Layer 2 blockchains compatible with the Ethereum network.
Polygon Labs states that Layer 2 blockchains built using the CDK will possess the capability to link to a shared ZK bridge, enhancing their interoperability.
“When a developer utilizes the Polygon CDK to deploy a chain, they are launching a ZK-powered L2 on Ethereum. Through connection to a shared ZK bridge, each chain becomes seamlessly interoperable, establishing connections with all others,” explains Polygon Labs.
The codebase for the Chain Development Kit will be made publicly accessible as open-source, according to the company.
The Polygon CDK represents an advancement from Supernets, which allowed projects to operate protocols resembling sidechains. The new CDK enables existing Supernets to upgrade their current structure to utilize the advanced Polygon ZK technology.

Introducing the ‘Interop Layer’
This toolkit introduces what is referred to as the “Interop Layer,” a fresh protocol being developed by Polygon Labs. It will gather zero-knowledge proofs from multiple Polygon chains and unite them by anchoring them to the Ethereum mainnet. This layer also coordinates the status of various Layer 2 chains, ensuring harmonious interaction among them.
Lately, Polygon Labs has been involved in crafting individual chains for prominent entities such as Immutable, IDEX, Palm Network, and Aavegotchi. With the forthcoming Polygon 2.0, the emphasis will transition towards establishing more interconnected chains. The goal is to create an ecosystem akin to that of Cosmos and Polkadot, tailored specifically for Ethereum Layer 2 developers.
