Scroll Appears to Have Launched Its zkEVM on Mainnet
Scroll, the Ethereum Layer 2 network, has seemingly launched its zkEVM (Zero-Knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine) on the mainnet, and users have already begun bridging funds to the platform, as evidenced by on-chain data.
According to a Dune Analytics dashboard, more than 330 ETH (equivalent to $515,000) has been bridged, involving over 850 transactions and nearly 500 unique users. The deployment of the bridge began on October 8, as observed on the Etherscan blockchain explorer.
While there hasn’t been an official announcement from the Scroll team yet, users are already capable of adding the mainnet to their web3 wallets like MetaMask and transferring funds from other Ethereum-based networks to the zkEVM using third-party bridges such as Owlto Finance. The reported minimum bridge amount is 0.0035 ETH, roughly $5.
Some decentralized applications (Dapps) seem to have started integrating with the Scroll mainnet, offering users the opportunity to explore the new network. DefiLlama is currently monitoring four decentralized exchanges (DEXs) on the Scroll zkEVM and reports a total value locked in Scroll applications of over $150,000 thus far.
There is no official confirmation regarding the launch and distribution of a Scroll token.
Scroll’s zkEVM mainnet launch follows extensive testing, including its deployment on the Ethereum Goerli testnet in February. Before that, Scroll was available for testing via the project’s Ethereum clone.
The development of Scroll’s network has spanned two years, with the collaboration of 60 team members and external contributors. zkEVMs are Layer 2 networks built on Ethereum that employ zero-knowledge proofs to enhance scalability. Since they are Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible, these networks can support Ethereum applications while also enabling scaling.
